Ray Flanagan previews Day 3 of Cheltenham.
Corach Rambler (10-1) got the week off to a good start on Tuesday. After sitting yesterday out (at least on here) I am back with a few selections for Thursday’s fare.
Recommended Bets
1 pt ew- Dunboyne-2.10 Cheltenham- 7-1 General– Suspicion we have not seen the best of this horse all year with connections protecting is mark for the big occasion. I expect the handbrakes to be let off today and should go close from the foot of the weights under Jack Kennedy
5 pts win- The Glancing Queen- 4.10 Cheltenham-4-1 General– (pictured – an attractive mare with distinctive white blaze) I have been a fan of this mare and have monitored her since her bumper days when she was flagged up by Marten Julian in his dark horses book. Won a good Cheltenham bumper early in her career and has since competed well, albeit a little short of the very best in both open and mares company. Latest second to Lomme Press was well franked yesterday and I expect that The Glancing Queen can have her crowning glory this afternoon. We will go for a maximum bet.
1 pt ew- Glenloe-5.30 Cheltenham-12-1 General Narrowly denied in the Pertemps Hurdle on this card a few years ago. Yet to hit same heights over fences but conditions have come right for him and a half decent round of fencing could see this thorough stayer hard to beat.
1 pt ew- Come on Teddy-5.30 Cheltenham- 10-1 General
Useful handicap hurdler last season when finished third in the Pertemps. Not great thus far over fences but switch to a big field handicap could be the making of him. Needs to jump better and that is the chance we are taking. Otherwise has decent prospects.
