Rambler for the gambler at Cheltenham

Ray Flanagan previews Cheltenham Day One

Another Cheltenham Festival arrives and whatever about winning or losing it is good to be healthy and able to enjoy the racing.

A few selections for a sporting interest.

Cheltenham 2.50- Corach Rambler

I like the chances of Corach Rambler in the day’s and the meeting’s first handicap. This big strapping sort looked a staying chaser with immense potential when winning a novices handicap over the course and distance in December and although slightly disappointing next time in the Warwick national, he will be more streetwise following that learning experience. He looks attractively weighted here as a big strong horse off 10-2 and if jumping fluently could run a big race.

Cheltenham 3.30- Adagio and Zanahiyr (w/o Honeysuckle)

The betting without favourite market looks the way to go. I like the chances of both of these two and find it hard to split them. Adagio boasts strong previous course form with his Greatwood Hurdle second under top weight a particularly good effort.

Zanahiyr appeared better than his final placing suggested in the Triumph last year and he performed quite well on both latest starts behind Sharjah at Christmas and today’s favourite at the February festival. Could also find a bit more improvement for the application of cheekpieces.

Cheltenham 4.50- HMS Seahorse

Snippets of decent form for Aidan O Brien on the flat. Enjoys a nine pounds pull with The Tide Turns for run in Punchestown maiden. Form working out well and could improve for encountering slightly better ground notwithstanding improvement will be needed in the jumping department.
